born: 14, January 1969
place: Mildura, Australia
nationality: Australian
british clubs: Edinburgh
Admirer of local hero Phil Crump, Nigel started schoolboy racing about 1981, reached the Australian Final 3 times at that level before graduating to 500cc machines. Reached the full Aussie Final in 1987, and finished 3rd twice in the Victorian titles, behind Phil Crump and Leigh Adams. Given his UK chance with Monarchs in 1990, but suffered from a recurrence of a shoulder dislocation in his first practise session. Finally made his debut at Rye House in July, but finished with only a 2.57 average. Started much more impressively in 1991, just missing a maximum v Hungary, and in spite of a mid-season slump increased his average to 5.75. Didn't gain a work permit for 1992, came over anyway, but had to return without racing. He hasn't ridden since. Very popular with fans and fellow riders. He returned to the UK in 2004 to be at Frede Schott's Testimonial. |
