He came up from the training school at Hyde Road and spent most of his racing life there. He rode one match for the Monarchs in 1948 in a National League 2nd Division match against Newcastle he failed to score from 3 races. He spent the rest of the season at Sheffield. The following year he returned to Belle Vue who he rode with for the next 8 years. In 1964 he joined Sunderland before joining Newcastle the same year where he spent two years.
