One of speedway's pioneers from 1928 he had a long career which spanned over 20 years. His best days were at Sheffield during 946-49 seasons. He joined the Monarchs in 1950 with moderate results. He left the in August of the same year to return to Sheffield and then top scored against the Monarchs. His last years were with Liverpool between 1951-1953
