The British Conference League is the third tier of British League speedway which is intended to develope British Talent. Formed in 1994 and known as the British League Division Three is was renamed the Academy League in 1995. The League experienced financial problems as was relaunched as the Conference League. The following year and again was renamed to the British Amateur League. In 1997 The League reverted back to the Conference name and this continued until 2009 when the competition was then known as the National League.
