In memory - Walter Brown

Tragedy struck Marine Gardens on 11 May 1929 when local rider Walter Brown was killed in a racing accident. 26,000 fans witnessed the accident which took place in the second last race.. The event was a four lap consolation handicap for novices. Walter who was making his third apperance at the track fell from his bike and was hit by the rider behind him. He died at the track his body was taken to the Royal Infirmary where death was certified. An examination showed that he had suffered a dislocated neck. Tragically his two brothers were spectators in the crowd and had witnessed the accident. I have been unable to locate a photograph of walter if you have one please contact me.

Sadly the same day Walter lost his life another rider also lost his John Stockdale was killed in a crash at Preston.
