Jack Young
Australian Jack Young became the first rider to win two World titles and the first to win two in a row. Second was Welshman Freddie Williams on 13 points, with Britain's Bob Oakley third on 12 points. For the first time qualifying rounds were held in Europe with meetings held in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The top 8 continental riders joined 24 riders who qualified via the British qualifying rounds which were held on the Southern League tracks. They were joined by the remaining second division riders and 40 first division riders with each rider contesting two events at the second division tracks. In the championship round the 62 riders were joined by the top 18 riders in the first division. Meetings were held at the first division tracks with each rider contesting two meetings. The top 16 riders progressed to the Final at Wembley on the 18th September 1952. The Final was covered by both BBC TV and BBC Radio.
