Dave Younghusband

Guested for the Monarchs on 19th May 1966 in a match against Sheffield

Dave was one of the riders who remained for most of his career with the same club. Joining Halifax from Middlesbrough in 1965 he remained with them through to 1972 when he broke his leg racing at Poole. He announced his retirement after his leg had failed to heal 18 months later. Dave was tempted out of retirement by Cradley Heath in 1974 to replace Bernie Persson who had also broken his leg. He rode six meetings but struggled with his leg before finally retiring from his riding career although not from Speedway altogether. Dave was a British Finalist on two occasions 1968 and 1971
Dave Younghusband was appointed as the Team Manager when the Newcastle Speedway re-opened in 1975 where he led the club to the National League Champions in 1976, 1982 & 1983 and runners up in the intervening years 1975.1978 & 1980, the team also accomplished good results in the Knock Out Cup, 4 Team Tournament & Pairs.
