report from Western Morning News

Somerset Rebels gained a 12-point advantage over Edinburgh Monarchs in the first leg of the Premier League Championship Final after winning 54-42 at the Oaktree Arena on Friday night.
The hosts got themselves off to a good start and were 12 points up by the conclusion of heat five, a lead they extended out to 17 points with a third of the match left.
However, Edinburgh came back at the Rebels in the latter stages, the visitors relying heavily on Craig Cook and ex-Rebel Sam Masters, the duo scoring 29 points between them.
Somerset undoubtedly missed the scoring prowess of skipper, Olly Allen, especially in the latter heats, their number one being ruled out by a shoulder injury.
Despite this the Rebels never looked to be danger of losing the match, and so completed the campaign with an unbeaten home record.
Team manager Garry May said: “Of course you would always like more of a lead than you one you have in situations such as this but this is the hand we have dealt ourselves and nothing can change that now.
“We will go there with the intention of trying to win the match, so will be looking to put them under pressure from the off and if we can do that, who knows what the final outcome might be?”
Scorers:
Somerset Rebels: Eddie Kennett 5+1 (4 rides), rider replacement (Brady Kurtz), Charles Wright 13+3 (6), Pontus Aspgren 12 (6), Nick Morris 10+1 (5), Todd Kurtz 6+3 (5), Paul Starke 8+1 (4).
Edinburgh Monarchs: Craig Cook 15 (5), Justin Sedgmen 3 (5), Max Fricke 7 (5), rider replacement (Stevie Worrall), Sam Masters 14+1 (5), Aaron Fox 2 (6), Derek Sneddon (4).
