Edinburgh Monarchs finally broke their away day Championship league blues in tremendous style at Redar Bears last night. Monarchs cruised to a 57-33 victory and all four match points which hauls them off the bottom of the table and is a big confidence boost ahead of tonight’s visit of Ipswich Witches to Armadale. Monarchs made a flying start to the match with No.1 Ricky Wells and partner Victor Palovaara scorching to a 5-1 in the very first heat against Ben Barker and Jonas Andersen, and this was quickly followed up by a 4-2 in the next heat courtesy of race winner Joel Andersson and Max Ruml, Monarchs leading 9-3 at this stage. Josh Pickering and Mark Riss added another 4-2 for Monarchs in the third race.defeating Andersen and Dimitri Berge. Monarchs now opened up a 13-5 advantage and the Bears were left reeling by their visitors’ opening salvo. Incredibly Monarchs then moved ten points clear in heat four with their third 4-2 advantage in a row coming from skipper Erik Riss and Andersson. Wells and Palovaara grabbed their second 5-1 of the night in the fifth race to put Monarchs 22-8 in front. The next race was shared 3-3 and the Bears handed Barker a tactical substitute outing in the seventh race in a bid to halt what was turning into a Monarchs onslaught. Barker triumphed and with team-mate Thomas Jorgensen picking up a third place point, this 4-2, Redcar’s first heat victory of the meeting, reduced their deficit to 12 points 27-15. The next three races were shared before Wells and Palovaara secured their third 5-1 together in heat 11 which virtually sealed the match points for
Monarchs, who now led 41-25. The Capital outfit saw out the last four races untroubled to secure a welcome, but surprisingly easy victory against a Bears side who were simply not at the races on their own track. Top Monarch was Wells, who scored a paid 15-point maximum but it was a real team effort.
