report from the Edinburgh Evening News
Edinburgh Monarchs are back on top of the Premier League after they easily tamed Sheffield Tigers 60-31 in a one sided clash at Armadale Stadium last night.
Monarchs took control of the match after heat seven which triggered four 5-1 advantages in succession which killed the meeting as a meaningful contest.
Monarchs skipper Craig Cook, fresh from winning his first Grand Prix race at Cardiff last weekend, was the star of the show as he stormed to a 15 point maximum. Cook also smashed his own track record in the fourth race scorching to the chequered flag in a new time of 54.04 seconds.
Sheffield tracked just four of their own riders and had to rely on guests for most of their points.
Monarchs team manager Alex Harkess said: “It was a pretty easy win for us in the end. I couldn’t really see where Sheffield were going to get their points from and we were just comfortable in the second half.”
Max Clegg was the other Monarchs star with a smile on his face after piling up ten points from his five starts from reserve, which included victory in his final ride.
