Belle Vue Aces Champions 1930

The Northern League was formed in 1929 it was known as the English Dirt Track League but was renamed the Northern League with the inclusuion of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1930. The league ran for 3 years it was then merged with the Southern League to form the National League.

The league had many problems White City (Manchester) had won all 18 of its matches before resigning after a dispute which left Leeds Lions as champions. The league had many problems with Warrington being expelled Bolton completing only one match before their fixtures were taken over by Hanley and Long Eaton entering the competition but never completed a match. Belle Vue, Burnley and Bolton all withdrew. In 1930 there were many team changes from the previous season. Reigning champions Leeds Lions, Halifax, Salford, and Middlesbrough dropped out. Manchester White City, Belle Vue and warrington renewed their participation having withdrawn partway through the previous season. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Glasgow White City were new entrants. During the season Barnsley and Manchester White City withdrew during the season but there records remained.

In 1931 only six clubs started the season and only 4 finished. Liverpool, Manchester White City, Warrington, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Rochdale Barnsley and Wombwell were no longer participants. Leeds rejoined after missing the previous season.Glasgow white City and Leicester Super withdrew mid-season but their results stood.
